Nuestras vidas ser\u00edan mucho m\u00e1s sencillas si solamente bendiciones estuvieran delante nuestro.<\/p>\n<p>En un plano humano, una madre dice a su hijo de suficiente edad: \u201cprohibido jugar con el cuchillo!, pero el hijo siempre tendr\u00e1 la elecci\u00f3n de obedecer o no; si desobedece y se corta, ser\u00e1 su completa responsabilidad. Lo mismo sucede con nosotros, D\u2019os ha puesto las opciones ante nosotros, pero nos ordena escoger la vida, porque nos conviene y porque es lo mejor para nosotros. Queriendo darnos absoluta libertad de elecci\u00f3n nos ha puesto delante tambi\u00e9n todo aquello que nos puede da\u00f1ar. La naturaleza humana exige y a\u00f1ora por la libertad, a\u00fan si todas sus necesidades est\u00e1n saciadas y vive en un palacio, si no hay opci\u00f3n de salir de all\u00ed se termina convirtiendo en una c\u00e1rcel. D\u2019os no quiso encarcelarnos y por eso nos dio la opci\u00f3n de abandonar el palacio si as\u00ed queremos; no sin antes advertirnos de las consecuencias de esto.<\/p>\n<p>Muchas veces hemos decidido salir del palacio y explorar afuera en busca de aventuras, pero al final solamente encontramos la carencia de todas aquellas bendiciones que no pueden ser halladas fuera.<\/p>\n<p>Estamos a pocos d\u00edas de iniciar el camino del retorno, de la Teshuv\u00e1, a un poco m\u00e1s de un mes del nuevo a\u00f1o y los d\u00edas del juicio, el mes de Elul es una oportunidad para reconectarnos con D\u2019os y Su Tor\u00e1, de volver al palacio del Rey nuestro Padre. El Shofar empezar\u00e1 a sonar en las sinagogas, durante las madrugadas se empezar\u00e1n a escuchar las melod\u00edas de las Selijot, y nuestra Nesham\u00e1 sentir\u00e1 intuitivamente la necesidad de reconectar y acercarse a la Fuente de Vida, dejar atr\u00e1s la maldici\u00f3n y elegir nuevamente la bendici\u00f3n. Lev\u00e1ntate y eleva s\u00faplicas, antes que lleguen los d\u00edas temibles\u201d<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" data-section-id=\"19600mm\" data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"31\"><span role=\"text\"><strong data-start=\"3\" data-end=\"31\">The Paradox of Free Will<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"33\" data-end=\"69\">Our <em data-start=\"37\" data-end=\"47\">Parashah<\/em> opens with the words:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"71\" data-end=\"123\"><strong data-start=\"71\" data-end=\"123\">\u201cSee, I have set before you blessing and curse\u2026\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"125\" data-end=\"217\">It then explains that we will receive blessing if we choose to follow the path of the Torah.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"219\" data-end=\"346\">Why, then, did Hashem also place the curse before us? Our lives would certainly be much easier if only blessings lay before us.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"348\" data-end=\"882\">On a human level, a mother tells her child, who is old enough to understand: <em data-start=\"425\" data-end=\"456\">\u201cDo not play with the knife!\u201d<\/em> Yet the child still has the choice of whether to obey or not. If the child disobeys and gets hurt, the responsibility is entirely his own. The same is true for us. God has placed the options before us, but He commands us to choose life, because it is for our own good and because it is the best path for us. In granting us complete freedom of choice, He has also placed before us everything that has the potential to harm us.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"884\" data-end=\"1217\">Human nature longs for freedom. Even if all of a person&#8217;s needs are met and they live in a palace, if there is no possibility of leaving, that palace eventually becomes a prison. God did not want to imprison us, and so He gave us the freedom to leave the palace if we so choose\u2014while first warning us of the consequences of doing so.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1219\" data-end=\"1419\">Many times we have chosen to leave the palace and explore the world in search of adventure, only to discover that outside we find the absence of all those blessings that cannot be found anywhere else.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1421\" data-end=\"2028\">In just a few days we will begin the journey of return\u2014<em data-start=\"1476\" data-end=\"1486\">Teshuvah<\/em>. With a little more than a month remaining before the New Year and the Days of Judgment, the month of <em data-start=\"1589\" data-end=\"1595\">Elul<\/em> offers us an opportunity to reconnect with God and His Torah, to return to the palace of our Father, the King. The sound of the <em data-start=\"1724\" data-end=\"1732\">shofar<\/em> will begin to echo through the synagogues. In the early hours of the morning, the melodies of the <em data-start=\"1831\" data-end=\"1841\">Selichot<\/em> will begin to rise, and our <em data-start=\"1870\" data-end=\"1880\">neshamah<\/em> will instinctively feel the need to reconnect and draw closer to the Source of Life, leaving the curse behind and choosing the blessing once again.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2030\" data-end=\"2055\">As our tradition teaches:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2057\" data-end=\"2171\"><strong data-start=\"2057\" data-end=\"2171\">\u201cWhat is wrong with you, O slumbering soul?
