        "rendered": "<pre><em><strong>(English translation found below)<\/strong><\/em><\/pre>\n<p>La Tor\u00e1 no solamente nos cuenta historias inspiradoras, tampoco es \u00fanicamente un manual de pr\u00e1cticas religiosas y rituales, fue durante muchos siglos el sistema legislativo y judicial de Am Israel. Absolutamente todos los aspectos de la vida de una civilizaci\u00f3n est\u00e1n definidos en la Tor\u00e1.<\/p>\n<p>Parashat Shoftim espec\u00edficamente enfatiza en la importancia del establecimiento de jueces, polic\u00edas, un sistema judicial imparcial, justo y equitativo, las leyes que el rey de Israel deb\u00eda cumplir y c\u00f3mo \u00e9l mismo no estaba por encima de la ley, la importancia del papel de los cohanim en su labor ritual y social, la necesidad de tener consejeros y observadores imparciales fuera de las esferas de poder, en ese momento los profetas.<\/p>\n<p>Basta leer la Parash\u00e1 para comprender el grado de sabidur\u00eda y sensibilidad que tiene la Tor\u00e1 ante temas con los que todav\u00eda hoy los seres humanos modernos lidiamos por resolver, tales como el totalitarismo, el abuso de poder, la corrupci\u00f3n, el enriquecimiento il\u00edcito, el atropello a los derechos de los m\u00e1s vulnerables, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Hacia el final de esta Parash\u00e1 tambi\u00e9n trae la Tor\u00e1 un tema tan actual e inmediatamente cercano a nuestra situaci\u00f3n actual que no deja de sorprender la \u201ccoincidencia\u201d. Se trata de las mitzvot relacionadas con c\u00f3mo negociar la paz con los enemigos. Ordena la Tor\u00e1 que antes de iniciar un conflicto b\u00e9lico, se debe enviar una propuesta de paz al enemigo, en caso de una respuesta negativa tienes permitido y justificado ir a la guerra contra \u00e9l.<\/p>\n<p>Resulta claro que nuestra tradici\u00f3n siempre ha sido abanderada de la b\u00fasqueda de la paz, hist\u00f3ricamente las guerras de Israel siempre han sido defensivas o preventivas ante la agresi\u00f3n de un enemigo. Tenemos ejemplos de sobra en todo el Tana\u201dj, durante la \u00e9poca griego-helen\u00edstica, romana, y por supuesto, no ha sido la excepci\u00f3n durante la historia de la moderna Medinat Israel.<\/p>\n<p>La lamentable guerra actual que enfrentamos todo el Pueblo Jud\u00edo no es la excepci\u00f3n. Desde los albores de su nacimiento, el Estado de Israel ha ofrecido ya incontables veces ofertas de paz a sus vecinos \u00e1rabes; una y otra vez estos ofrecimientos pac\u00edficos fueron respondidos con la violencia m\u00e1s empecinada que pueda verse, y a pesar de que hace mucho entendimos que no hay ning\u00fan deseo de convivencia pac\u00edfica de parte de quienes nos odian, nuestros valores eternos nos empujan una y otra vez a intentarlo de nuevo, aunque la respuesta siempre ha sido la misma: odio, destrucci\u00f3n y muerte.<\/p>\n<p>La ceguera e hipocres\u00eda del mundo no le permite ver los hechos como verdaderamente son, y es as\u00ed como el agredido es acusado de agresor y el asesino es defendido como si fuera la v\u00edctima. La historia nos ha ense\u00f1ado ya a no esperar nada diferente de las naciones, los profetas ya hacen miles de a\u00f1os nos advirtieron que como \u201cmanada peque\u00f1a\u201d estamos contra el mundo defendiendo valores impopulares para quienes ostentan el despotismo y el poder. Parece dif\u00edcil pensar, que a pesar de todos los regalos maravillosos e invaluables que el juda\u00edsmo ha legado a la humanidad, despu\u00e9s de milenios de antisemitismo irracional, podamos convencer a las naciones de vernos y tratarnos al menos con un poco de empat\u00eda.<\/p>\n<p>Lo importante es que nosotros s\u00ed lo tengamos claro, y que la narrativa de quienes son abanderados de la muerte no logre contaminar nuestras mentes, haci\u00e9ndonos pensar que somos nosotros los victimarios y los agresores. Hemos ofrecido paz y la respuesta una y otra vez ha sido un rotundo no, seguido de m\u00e1s agresi\u00f3n. \u00bfEspera el mundo que los jud\u00edos nos crucemos de brazos frente a quienes nos vienen a aniquilar?<\/p>\n<p>Que este D\u2019var Tor\u00e1 sirva para la elevaci\u00f3n de las almas puras que entregaron sus vidas por Kedushat Hashem veHaaretz y que el Santo Bendito Sea traiga a nuestros hermanos pronto a casa.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shabat Shalom umevoraj <\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Rab. Dr. Yaakov Rodr\u00edguez<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The Torah is not only a collection of inspiring stories, nor is it merely a manual of religious and ritual practices\u2014it was, for many centuries, the legislative and judicial system of Am Israel. Absolutely every aspect of the life of a civilization is defined within the Torah.<\/p>\n<p>Parashat Shoftim specifically emphasizes the importance of establishing judges, law enforcement, an impartial, just, and equitable judicial system, the laws that the king of Israel was required to follow\u2014and how even he was not above the law\u2014the important role of the cohanim in both ritual and social responsibilities, and the need for impartial advisors and observers outside the spheres of power\u2014at that time, the prophets.<\/p>\n<p>One only has to read this Parashah to understand the level of wisdom and sensitivity that the Torah demonstrates regarding issues that modern humanity still struggles to resolve today, such as totalitarianism, abuse of power, corruption, illicit enrichment, and the violation of the rights of the most vulnerable, among others.<\/p>\n<p>Toward the end of this Parashah, the Torah also introduces a topic that is strikingly relevant and closely aligned with our current situation, making the \u201ccoincidence\u201d all the more surprising. It concerns the mitzvot regarding how to negotiate peace with enemies. The Torah commands that before initiating a military conflict, a peace offer must be extended to the enemy. If the enemy responds negatively, then and only then is war permitted and justified.<\/p>\n<p>It is clear that our tradition has always championed the pursuit of peace. Historically, Israel\u2019s wars have always been defensive or preemptive responses to aggression. We have countless examples throughout the entire Tanakh, during the Hellenistic Greek and Roman periods, and of course, the modern history of Medinat Israel has been no exception.<\/p>\n<p>The tragic war that our entire Jewish People faces today is no exception either. Since its very inception, the State of Israel has offered countless peace proposals to its Arab neighbors. Time and again, these peaceful overtures have been met with the most determined and violent rejection imaginable. And although we long ago understood that there is no genuine desire for peaceful coexistence from those who hate us, our eternal values push us\u2014again and again\u2014to try once more, even though the answer has always been the same: hatred, destruction, and death.<\/p>\n<p>The blindness and hypocrisy of the world prevent it from seeing the truth as it is. Thus, the attacked are accused of being the aggressors, and the murderer is defended as if they were the victim. History has already taught us not to expect anything different from the nations. Thousands of years ago, the prophets warned us that, as a \u201csmall flock,\u201d we would stand against the world defending values that are unpopular with those who wield despotism and power. It is hard to believe that, despite all the wonderful and invaluable gifts Judaism has given to humanity, after millennia of irrational antisemitism, we might ever convince the nations to look at us\u2014or treat us\u2014with even a shred of empathy.<\/p>\n<p>What matters is that we ourselves are clear about this, and that the narrative of those who champion death does not contaminate our minds, making us believe that we are the perpetrators and aggressors. We have offered peace, and the answer has repeatedly been a resounding \u201cno,\u201d followed by more aggression. Does the world expect the Jewish people to sit with arms crossed in the face of those who come to annihilate us?<\/p>\n<p>May this D\u2019var Torah serve for the elevation of the pure souls who gave their lives for Kedushat Hashem veHaaretz, and may the Holy One, Blessed Be He, bring our brothers and sisters home soon.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shabbat Shalom umevorach<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Rab.
